What is HVLP Spraying?

HVLP is an acronym for high volume, low pressure. What this means is that the spray gun is using low air pressure to push out the paint. When compared to a conventional spray gun, this method produces less overspray and has less finishing bounce-back on the piece being painted. You will save money by using less finish and have less cleaning up to do.

Different Types of HVLP Spray Gun Equipment

An HVLP conversion gun utilizes air from an air compressor. The air compressor needs to be fairly large to support the spray gun because it needs a constant flow of air. If you have enough space and don’t need a portable sprayer, this may be the option for you.

A turbine HVLP utilizes a portable turbine to create the air for the spray gun. The turbine creates a consistent flow of air, similar to how a vacuum exhausts air. The advantage of using this equipment is that it’s compact and portable. The turbines are differentiated by how many fans are used, also known as “stages”. They range from three to five stages.

An airless spray gun is another kind of finishing tool on the market, but is not designed for fine finishes. It’s a better tool for painting large areas such as exterior walls where a high volume of paint is needed.
